December Update

Hi all,

Last update for 2009!!! Can't believe another year is almost over. Thankyou all for your ongoing support, Prams is what it is because of all the fabulous people that contribute to its culture. I'd love to see as many of you as possible at the Christmas Party again this year.

September Update

Hi all,

Lots of news this month so keep reading! Thank also for all your lovely messages following my trip - I had a fantastic holiday in England and a wonderful time with the family.


Council Permit
Stonnington Council are finally going ahead with their plan to implement a permit requirement and fee. I anticipate that this policy will cause significant changes to the way Prams sessions are run. I am already working on ways to make sure the quality of Prams is not compromised. I am grateful for all support and encourage you to forward your comments to council.

So far, the policy is (in large part) in response to complaints about group/commercial exercise. It is equally important for those of us who value the right to exercise in the park to put forward our opinions and protect our rights. I will forward the draft policy separately.

The new laws include a fee of $800 per year. In addition, the policy includes a ban on weight equipment. This means I will need to completely restructure the way sessions are run and, I will need to invest at least $1000 in new equipment/training so that I can comply with council policy.

As a result of this and, a general increase in the cost of living I am forced to increase Prams in the park prices. I hope you understand the need for this increase and recognise that Prams in the Park still offers great quality and affordability. The increase for someone averaging 2 sessions per week will be $4.


Price Increase
There will be a price increase from September 1st. New prices are as follows:

1st session - $25 (no change)

Subsequent sessions: 5 = $100 ($20each)
10 = $180 ($18each)
20 = $320 ($16each)

Casual session - $25 (no change)

Early Riser's and Fun Run Group - LIsted price includes increase.

Father's Day Promotion
Yes, it's that time again! During the month of September Dad's may train for free on Saturdays!! So, if your hubbie has been throwing empty promises of "I will give it go, one day" when you suggest he join you at Prams on a Saturday morning, now is the time for him to put his money where his mouth is - especially because no money is required!!

Saturday - 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th - Available only to dad's that have not attended Prams before. Bookings essential as Saturdays can be very busy and all spots are in demand.


Early Risers (3 Day) Monday 14th Sept - Friday 16th October 5 weeks = 15 sessions ($225)
A great way to welcome spring, this program is filling fast so register now! The program will be held at Central Park weather permitting. In the event of bad weather sessions will be moved to Percey Treyvaud Memorial Park. You will be required to check your mobile in the morning for a change of venue. The mornings are getting warmer and lighter so jump on board!!
The program will run at 6am every Mon/Wed/Fri for 5 weeks (14/9 - 16/10).
Fun Run Training Program (5 or 10kms) Tuesday 15th September - Saturday 24th October 5 week = 18 sessions ($270)
6am Tues & Thurs and 6.30am on Saturdays. Jump on board for this fantastic and hugely successful program. The current group are in week 4 of 6 and are all on target to achieve their 5 or 10km goals. The benefits are enormous. Previous participants now run regularly up to 3 times per week together, have lost significant weight and have formed strong friendships.
Back to Central Park!
Can't see any reason not to! We've had a mild winter and the weather is mostly fine. Therefore, we will return to our usual spot in Central Park from Monday 7th September. Spring is well known for throwing some unpredictable weather our way so make sure you check your phone in the morning in case I have moved back to the rotunda for the day - Please bear in mind that I have to make a decision for up to 5 sessions so just because the sun is shining at 8am doesn't mean it will remain that way. I may move us for the day when bad weather is forcast for later in the day.
New Client Agreement
I have a new client agreement - huge thanks Richard for all your help. Rather than just asking new clients to complete it I have decided it is also a good opportunity to update my records for all existing clients. I have attached a copy of the new agreement for your information - feel free to keep it on file for your reference.

July Update

Hi all,

Well, despite the lovely weather it is time to move to the rotunda for the winter. As this rate, we'll only be there for a couple of weeks! Keep reading for details.

New Arrivals
Yay! Finally I can tell you all very excitedly that Christie and Greg welcomed a baby brother for Grace and Lily - Edward Cameron Moore last Tues 17th June.

Early Risers
The next program (2 day) will start after 2 weeks off on Tues 28th July. Please register now as it all happens just a couple of days after I return from overseas so I need to know what's happening beforehand so I don't spend my holiday working!!
The program will run at 6am every Tues & Thurs for 5 weeks (28th July - 27th Aug). $140. This program is held entirely at Percy Treyvaud Park so that we have enough light and are undercover in wet weather.

Fun Run Training Program (5 or 10kms)
Registrations due now!! This program also starts just 3 days after I return so registrations will close on Sunday 5th July.

Commencing Tues July 28th, running for 6 weeks at 11am on Tues & Thurs and either 6.30 or 11am on Saturdays (yet to be determined).
(6 week program is $250) Jump on board for this fantastic and hugely successful program. The benefits are enormous - Previous participants now run regularly up to 3 times per week together and have formed strong friendships.

Moving for the winter
Yep its time!! All sessions will be held at the Rotunda, Percey Treyvaud Memorial Park commencing next Monday 29th June until further notice. This is mainly to avoid any confusion while I'm away. Briody will have enough to manage without trying to figure out who to text in the event of bad weather!

As many of you know, I'm taking a break in July and having a little holiday. I'm leaving you in the very capable hands of the lovely Briody Walker. I will be away between July 9th - 25th. I will take all bookings as usual until then and Briody will step into my shoes for a couple of weeks! June Update

Hi all,

Winter is finally here!!! Really, it is. I know, you don't believe me. It can't be, it's far to warm and sunny I hear you say. But it's true, the calendar doesn't lie...........


Early Risers
The next program (2 day) starts NEXT WEEK!!! I have space for 4 more so jump in!! The program will run at 6am every Tues & Thurs for 5 weeks (9th June - 9th July). $140. This program is held entirely at Percy Treyvaud Park so that we have enough light and are undercover in wet weather.

Moving for the winter
Due to the lovely weather we've been having I still haven't set a date yet for our winter migration to the Rotunda. For the time being please assume we're at Central Park and check your phone for a text if the weather looks uncertain the morning of your session. When the time comes I will send out an email at least a week before the move and will reinforce the date at all sessions.

Early Riser's sessions have moved to Percy Treyvaud until further notice.

New Contact Details - IMPORTANT

I haven't set a date yet for our winter migration to the Rotunda and am hoping to get another couple of weeks of sunshine in Central Park. There will start to be days, and even whole weeks that we move so please check your email regularly.

April Update

A couple of important dates coming up:

Next Saturday April 4th - The annual Pets In The Park event is on in Central Park so Prams will move to the Rotunda for the day, regardless of the weather.

Easter - Boxing with Briody available (if I get enough bookings) at 9am on Sat 11th and 9am on Monday 13th. - Please book now so that I know whether I have the numbers to go ahead with the sessions.

Early Risers at Easter - No changes required. 3 day program will have finished and 2 day program is Tues/Thurs so unaffected.

Early Risers 3 day Program
The current ER 3 day program will finish up this Friday April 3rd. The attendance during this program has been terrible!! Therefore, I have decided that there will be a delay before commencing the next 3 day program to give all the regular participants a break. The next program will commence on Monday 20th April. We will be getting close to winter by this time so this program will be conducted entirely at the Rotunda. Please register your interest in the program now.

Fun Run Training Program (5 or 10kms)
The 2 running groups so far have been out of this world successful!! My intention was to wait until spring before launching the next one. I have been asked to consider whether I could do it again before then, at 11am rather than 6am. Please let me know if you are interested in an 11am running group sooner rather than later.

March Update

Boxing on Mondays
These sessions have really taken off! Briody has been with us for 4 weeks now and the feedback has been fantastic, with bookings growing week by week. Don't delay, book your session now. Its a completely different workout to other Prams sessions and great for getting your heart rate up and burning calories. My plan in time is hopefully to add Boxing to Friday's sessions. Stay tuned.

Fun Run Training Program
Finishes this Saturday and all the girls are planning to run 10km's! They've all done amazingly and after the 2nd group I now call this program a fabulous success. This is where I will be posting the monthly newsletter from now on. I'm also adding various recipes etc. that have been popular in the past. You can go back and check past info that you may want to refer to without keeping all the emails now.

RECIPE: Smoked trout pasta salad


Martine's Smoked Trout Pasta Salad (much requested after the Christmas party)


500g packet of pasta bows
200g smoked trout
about 3 roasted capsicums (I buy them already roasted in a jar)
make sure they are in a salty brine rather than sweet.
shaved parmesan - as much as you like!
fresh dill
olive oil

cook the pasta until al dente
drain and toss through olive oil to prevent from sticking - as much or little oil as you like but you do need to coat the pasta.
allow to cool.
add chopped trout, capsicum and dill. toss.
make sure pasta is cool enough that it won't melt the cheese and then add parmesan, again as much or as little as you like. I always buy a wedge of good quality parmesan and shave it myself with a vegie peeler.

this salad is best made the day before and served at room temp.

RECIPE: Chicken & Muchroom Risotto

Here's that risotto recipe (it's from a book called Food for Fitness so it should be right up your alley!).

Chicken and Mushroom Risotto (serves 4):

1 liter chicken stock
1 tablespoon oil
30g butter
1 leek (thinly sliced)
200g Swiss brown mushrooms (sliced)
200g button mushrooms (sliced)
3 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
500g chicken tenderloins halved
1/2 cup (125ml) white wine
1 1/4 cups (275g) arborio rice
2 tablespoons snipped fresh chives

1. Place the stock in a saucepan and simmer.
2. Heat oil & butter in a separate saucepan, add the leek and cook over medium heat for 5 minutes, or until golden. Add mushrooms and 2 tablespoons of balsamic vinegar, and cook until tender.
3. Add chicken and cook until browned. Stir in wine and bring to a boil (also, pour yourself a glass of wine and sip while cooking). Add the rice and stir to coat.
4. Add 1/2 cup (125ml) stock, stirring constantly over medium heat until all the liquid is absorbed. Continue adding 1/2 cup stock at a time, stirring for 25 minutes, or until all the stock is absorbed and rice is tender. Stir in remaining vinegar and chives. Season & serve.

Nutrition per serve: Protein 37g; Fat 15g; Carbs 54g; Dietary fiber 4.5g; cholesterol 82mg; 2090kg (500 cal).

*I often use more mushrooms and chicken than required b/c I like it chuck full o'stuff....it still tastes great. A bit shaved of parmesean on top is a nice touch as well. Enjoy!

JANUARY UPDATE

Happy New Year!!!

Yes, I'm back! Have had a lovely break in a caravan in Grantville (very posh, not!) and am looking foward to getting back into it and seeing you all in the coming weeks.

New Arrivals
Jen Mc and big sister Matilda were delighted by the late arrival on new years eve of baby Grace Scarlett, what a way to celebrate!!
And, on Jan 5th Pam and Trevor Johnston welcomed Finlay Spencer, baby brother to Violet. Huge congrats to all.

Changes to Prams
There are a couple of changes to Prams this year. The most significant being that I am going to take Mondays off! The lovely Briody Walker will be running Prams on a Monday, sessions at 8, 9 & 10am. She will do a different session, and will be including boxing each week. I'll be there for the first few weeks to introduce you. Book now to try one of her sessions.

I expect these sessions to become very popular as it's a great opportunity to vary your training by boxing with Briody on a Monday and seeing me later in the week for solid strength work. I will continue the very popular Super Circuits on Saturdays. Add to this the Early Risers and Running Programs and you have heaps of different training options.

Keep an eye on the website for details of these changes and some timetable changes also:
7am will now be on a Tuesday.

Fun Run Training Program - BOOK NOW!
I've had lots of interest in another running group and am ready to go ahead.
Commencing Monday 2nd Feb for 6 weeks (Mon & Thurs @ 6am, Sat 6.45am) til Sat 14th March. $240

This program is suitable for beginners - wanting to be able to achieve a 5km run and,
inexperienced runners who would like to achieve a 10km run.

Just a quick note to say an enormous thankyou for the brilliant running program. Simply - there is no way I would have done it without you. After having Alice earlier this year I was wondering how on earth I was ever going to be able to get back into running again - but your program, support, encouragement and cheery face at 6am helped me achieve what I thought was going to be impossible. What a difference it makes to your attitude when there is someone with a timer clapping and cheering you on as you complete yet another lap of Central Park, when your legs feel like lead and you can't breathe. And then you just go and do another lap! The way you developed the program so we built up to "race day" over 5 weeks meant that it was a gradual improve day by day and not a total shock to the system at any time.
While I never "bounced" out of bed at 5:45am (let's get real here!), the motivation to join the group, work on my fitness and pound the pavement meant that I never once put the snooze button on. While I achieved my 10km goal, I am determined to keep it up and even build on it to 15km (what the∑.?). After millions of laps around Central Park - now that is something I wont miss! Keep me posted on when you are running (!!) it again! (Jen H)

Hi Martine,
I just wanted to say a big thank you for the running group training. I was amazed at how quickly I got back into it after only running sporadically since Grace was born 16 months ago. I was quite proud of my achievement of 10kms after 5 weeks training and I couldn't have done it without you!

I found your encouragement and guidance was just the impetus I needed to committing to getting back into running and I found your 'technique tips' really beneficial. The added benefit was also losing a couple of kgs along the way! It was great to be part of a team heading towards a goal and I think we all celebrated in each others milestones and achievements. The early morning sessions were fantastic and the days a great spread over the week as I was able to get my training done early and still get home in time to get Grace ready for crèche and head off to work feeling energised for the day. I also appreciated that you always ran to time!

Although I got a little bored of the same lap of Central Park (I think I know every tree and bump in the path!) I wouldn't hesitate to recommend your program to anyone who wanted to either start or get back into running. (Jane G)
